Overview:

The 4097 CORE+ Supercardioid Choir Microphone from DPA is an 8.3’ tall, floor-standing solution specifically designed to capture the natural sound of a choir. Engineered for house-of-worship, live sound, and broadcast applications, this inconspicuous microphone system delivers highly directional pickup, low self-noise, and high sensitivity in an elegant, unobtrusive design.

Supercardioid Pickup and CORE+ Audio Technology

As a supercardioid electret condenser microphone, the 4097 features uniform, frequency-independent directionality and a linear response with low distortion and an extremely large dynamic range. Singing into the side (off-axis) of the microphone does not degrade the sound quality; it simply lowers the level of the voice. This allows engineers to use fewer microphones by aiming the capsule toward the last row of singers. The pickup pattern attenuates side sounds while maintaining a natural balance between the nearest and furthest performers, preserving clarity and ensemble cohesion.

With updated CORE+ technology, it is capable of handling extremely high sound pressure levels—up to 136 dB SPL peak (THD 10%)—allowing it to reproduce powerful choir performances with clarity and without distortion. The effective frequency range of 80 Hz to 15 kHz (±2 dB at 7.9") includes a 2 dB soft boost at 10 to 12 kHz for added presence, along with a second-order 80 Hz low-cut filter when used with the included DAD9099 adapter.

Extremely Stable, Yet Unobtrusive Construction

The 4097 CORE+ is designed with stability in mind. The shorter active boom pole rapidly stabilizes if accidentally bumped, while three built-in shockmounts—located in the capsule, swivel joint, and floor base—help reduce rumble and mechanical noise. The balanced floor base integrates shock mounting to stabilize the entire construction.

The vertical pole consists of three individual threaded sections that can be assembled to adjust overall height. A section can be removed without tools to lower the system as needed. The swivel joint, with integrated shockmount, connects the vertical pole to the 84" active boom pole, allowing control of angle and position. At the top, a gooseneck provides precise capsule direction adjustment. The capsule is pre-positioned at the correct angle out of the box and can easily be set to a 90° position above the choir to maintain a clear sightline from the audience.

Finished in a black matte, non-reflective surface, the 4097 presents a slim, elegant footprint that minimizes visual distraction and reflections from overhead lighting.

Wired or Wireless Flexibility

The 4097 CORE+ supports both wired and wireless configurations for maximum stage flexibility. The internal cable run exits the boom pole via a female MicroLock connector and attaches to the supplied heavy-duty MicroLock cable. At the base, an integrated adapter holder discreetly stores either the included MicroLock-to-XLR (DAD9099) adapter for wired use or a compatible wireless transmitter (available separately). This modular approach makes it easy to deploy multiple choir microphones cleanly and efficiently on stage.
