Overview
The MA Lighting grandMA3 Compact XT is the larger of the two compact models in the grandMA3 series, offering advanced control capabilities in a portable and compact form factor. Designed for owner/operators, touring professionals, and tech-desk duties, the grandMA3 Compact XT delivers the full system benefits of the grandMA3 platform, including real-time control of up to 8,192 parameters, scalable to 250,000 parameters with the use of additional grandMA3 processing units. It is an ideal choice for small to medium-sized professional lighting applications in entertainment venues, theaters, and live events.
The grandMA3 Compact XT features two large multi-touch foldable monitors, providing users with an expansive and intuitive interface for lighting control. These screens offer easy access to critical information and allow for rapid adjustments during live events or programming. Paired with 5 dual encoders and 39 rotary RGB backlit encoders, the console offers unparalleled control over fixtures, effects, and playback. The dual encoders are customizable, allowing users to map functions based on their workflow, improving both ease of use and programming speed.
Playback control is extensive, with 60 physical playbacks and 16 assignable x-keys, ensuring users have ample options to manage complex lighting setups. The grandMA3 Compact XT includes 15 backlit motorized 60mm faders and 2 backlit motorized 100mm A/B faders for precise intensity, timing, and effect adjustments. These faders feature a color-changing light pipe, providing clear visual feedback on the current settings and ensuring efficient control during live performances. All playbacks have direct access to button pushes and intensity adjustments via the new rotary RGB backlit encoders, allowing users to fine-tune their lighting designs with ease.
The grandMA3 Compact XT includes a dedicated master area for controlling key functions, making it easy to switch between scenes, cues, or effects during live events. Additionally, it supports an external multi-touch screen via DisplayPort 1.2, allowing for an even larger workspace for managing complex lighting setups. The console's command area is nearly identical to larger grandMA3 models, providing the full power of the grandMA3 system in a more compact and transportable format.
Running on the completely redesigned grandMA3 operating system, the grandMA3 Compact XT introduces a fresh, intuitive user interface with advanced fixture, feature, and effects-handling. The system architecture has been carefully developed based on extensive user feedback, ensuring that it addresses the practical needs of lighting professionals while retaining the fundamental syntax of grandMA2 for familiar usability. Selecting fixtures, adjusting values, storing presets, and playing back cues are now more intuitive, with faster access and improved workflow efficiency for programming and live busking.
Fixture information is now handled generically, making it easier to share programmed data between fixtures, and the console supports the General Device Type Format (GDTF) natively. This ensures that fixture manufacturers' products are controlled exactly as intended, improving compatibility and control across various lighting setups. With 8,192 control parameters as standard, and scalable up to 250,000 parameters, the grandMA3 Compact XT can handle complex lighting systems, making it a future-proof solution for growing productions.
The grandMA3 Compact XT supports a wide range of industry-standard protocols, including MA-Net3, MA-Net2, sACN, and Art-Net, allowing for seamless integration into existing lighting networks. Additionally, the console is fully RDM compliant, enabling bidirectional communication for remote monitoring, control, and configuration of DMX fixtures. These advanced features ensure that the grandMA3 Compact XT can handle the most demanding lighting tasks in professional environments.
The grandMA3 Compact XT is equipped with extensive connectivity options, including 6 DMX512-A outputs and 1 DMX512-A input via 5-pin XLR connectors, ensuring reliable DMX distribution to a wide range of lighting fixtures. It also includes 3 etherCON/RJ45 connectors for network integration, 5 USB ports (3 x USB 2.0 and 2 x USB 3.0), and DisplayPort 1.2 for external screens. Additional connectivity options include MIDI In/Out, Linear Timecode, Audio In, and General Purpose Interface (GPI) ports, making the grandMA3 Compact XT a versatile tool for integrating into complex lighting and multimedia systems.
Designed for durability and ease of use, the grandMA3 Compact XT features individually backlit, dimmable, silent keys that are clickless for quiet operation in theater or broadcast environments. The console's compact dimensions (34 x 17 x 7 inches when folded, 34 x 23 x 13 inches unfolded) and lightweight design (45 lbs) make it highly portable, yet powerful enough to manage professional lighting systems for live productions or fixed installations.
In terms of power, the console operates on AC 100-240V with a maximum power consumption of 250 VA, ensuring efficient energy use without sacrificing performance. Its wide operating temperature range of 32°F to 104°F ensures reliable performance in various indoor environments, from air-conditioned venues to warmer stage setups. Whether used in a touring rig or a permanent installation, the grandMA3 Compact XT provides unmatched flexibility and control for professional lighting designers.
